Passable
Plastic is currently a combination of punk and electro.
It began as filler for a cancelled act for a show we were promoting
at The Fire
(Philly Zine Fest 2004 pre-party).
Mo and I (Casey) hustled 6 new songs together in less than 1 hour.
Using 2 sequencers, a homemade bass guitar, a homemade distortion
pedal,
and a homemade microphone, we set everything full blast and proceeded
to jump around the stage for about a half an hour.
People seemed to be entertained, so we stuck with it...
In
early 2005, the explosive-yet-short-lived "Pirate BBQ"
became Delaware's premire venue to see punk shows for about 6 months.
Passable Plastic quickly became one of the house bands,
opening for many larger, touring bands. We adopted Brian on drums,
and
Tony Diego on guitar. By the end of one particular set, Mo was smashing
sheet metal over my bass, I was lying on the ground bloody, and Brian's
drum kit was scattered all over the stage.
This was a little too intense for Tony, for he had already packed up
his shit
and left mid-set after me kicking him several times. Matt Simmons quickly stepped up as the new guitarist. As a former
member of the Bill
Riccio 5 and regular at the Pirate, Matt know shit could get hectic. We played a few more shows, and Paul was hanging around. He noticed
me trying to play dual duty with the sequencers and bass, so without
warning he jumped on stage mid-set and took over my keyboards. We hustled a show at the Barbary (Philly), but 2 hours before load-in
Brian was nowhere to be found. Paul grabbed JP (formerly of Barfight!),
and within a few hours, JP was on stage with playing with us.
We've
played a few shows with this line-up, including an outside skate jam
with over 200 people, a packed show at the Pontiac Grill, another full
house at the Khyber, as well as a last-minute show at the Millcreek Tavern
with our old-friends Coltrane Motion (datawaslost) from Chicago, IL.
We
also played a completely live electronic set at e@13+ in Baltimore that
had booties shakin' and the bass thumpin'.
Along
with the close of the 4W5 Cafe, Passable Plastic played an overly-drunken
set at a Tric Town event. This was our last show with Matt.
We
are involved in Sundays at Mojo13 for Communion, and are also one of the
house bands. One of our biggest shows there has been Halloween night
2006, opening for MC Chris (of Adult Swim notoriety).
We
are back in action playing as a 4 piece, no drummer.
We
will play wherever, whenever. Drop us a line!
